Meet the Team: Debra Saucier
Debra Saucier has helped people develop their career strategies long before she became a career coach at Liberty University.
For about ten years, she worked as a counselor at two large churches and served in the Divorce Care and Rebuilders ministries. Both of these positions included supporting people looking for career help.
“That experience, in addition to my earlier career as an entrepreneur and business owner, made me realize the value of professional development and the importance of creating a career strategy,” Debra explained.
Debra joined the Career Services team in 2013 as the office administrator, but has worked in various roles since then. Now, she is the career coach for the Helms School of Government, encouraging and equipping students in their career.
“I love meeting and creating relationships with our wonderful students and alumni. Coming alongside to support them while they discover themselves and create or implement a career plan is the best part,” Debra shared.
Helping Students Pave their Career Path
Debra works with students to create resumes, search for jobs and internships, and prepare for interviews. She loves helping students decide on a career path and develop the skills needed for success.
“Every part of career development is important, because each thing is dependent on the success of the other. If done well, the student or alumni will get internship and job opportunities.”
Thanks to Debra’s help, students have found some incredible opportunities. She’s helped students receive positions with the Department of Defense, the Pentagon, Borgen, various intelligence agencies, and more.
For any student deciding on a future career, Debra encourages them to focus on their passions, gifts, and skills. Then, they should research careers within those areas. Students can also meet with a career coach to combine this dream job with their academic major.
“Each career coach has a wealth of knowledge about specific industries and organizations, in addition to the best advice on how to prepare and succeed,” Debra explained.
