These 126 hours will teach you about child, adolescent, and adult psychopathology, psychotherapy essentials, assessment skills, and advanced research methods. You will have the opportunity to learn through classroom-based instruction, in-the-field internship hours, and personal research for your dissertation. Find information about Liberty’s ongoing accreditation process and more details about the Psy.D. degree on the program page.

The information below, in October 2025, provides details and statistics related to the Psy.D. program, over the past ten years in some tables. Note, the first cohort of Psy.D. students began enrollment in the 2021 spring semester. A PDF version is also available (PDF). The Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology program is housed within Liberty University, whose mission is to develop Christ-centered men and women with the values, knowledge, and skills essential for impacting the world. Regarding student admissions, Liberty does not use religion-based criteria and does not discriminate on the basis of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, language, national origin, race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status. However, all students are expected to abide by Liberty’s Student Honor Code and should familiarize themselves with it (Liberty’s Student Honor Code). Liberty University seeks to hire individuals who subscribe to an evangelical doctrinal statement and support Liberty University’s purpose and mission statement. However, the university does not require faculty to be members of any particular Christian denomination.

Program Costs

Breakdown of Costs2025-2026 1st-year Cohort Cost
Tuition for full-time students (in-state)$39,600.00*
Tuition for full-time students (out-of-state)$39,600.00*
Tuition per credit hour for part-time students (if applicable enter amount; if not applicable enter “NA”)$1,100.00
University/institution fees or costs$1,416.00
Additional estimated fees or costs to students (e.g. books, travel, etc.)$6,494.00
*Note, the first-year tuition estimate is based on the typical course sequence of 36 credit hours (Fall-Summer). Each subsequence school year includes a typical course sequence that accumulates to a descending total of credits (e.g., year 2: 33 credits, year 4: 20 credits) as the program’s focus shifts more toward clinical practicum work and, eventually, internship.

Time to Completion

The Psy.D. Program Handbook includes information about the transfer (or substitution) of course credits (see Transfer of Credits section). The specific transfer/substitution course credit(s) and quantity will likely lead to some custom course sequencing for the individual during one or more semesters in the program that could ultimately lead to graduating earlier than the Degree Completion Plan sequence of five years (4 academic/practicum years and 1 final year of internship). Such a scenario is a case-by-case situation for each individual.
