Dr. Shannae Anderson is a licensed clinical and forensic psychologist in Virginia and California. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Southern California, where she studied under trauma expert Dr. John Briere. Her dissertation, which was nominated for a national award, explored how attachment experiences mediate the long-term effects of childhood trauma. She has been in private practice for 30 years, where she specializes in the treatment of complex trauma and PTSD, addictions, borderline personality disorder, and eating disorders. She studied under the founder of interpersonal neurobiology, Dr. Dan Siegel, for seven years, and she is an interpersonal neurobiology-trained teacher. She has directed addiction treatment centers since the mid-90s, and she is currently the Clinical Director of Monarch Recovery Center and Kokua Wellness in California. She was adjunct faculty at California Lutheran University and Fuller Theological Seminary for many years. She currently works at the American Association of Christian Counselors, where she is the Director of Psychology and the Co-director of Ethics and Advocacy, where she is fighting for religious liberty for Christian mental health professionals. She is a well-known speaker and lecturer, and she has her first book coming out soon.
