Biography

Dr. Bartholmae is a native of Costa Rica. She served in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman for five years and earned the Good Conduct Medal, in 2003, the National Defense Service Medal, in 2001, and the Global War on Terror Service Medal, in 2001.

In addition to her degrees, she earned a graduate-level certification in molecular diagnostics from Old Dominion University.

Her multidisciplinary research experience encompasses health and scientific fields across various settings including academic, public health departments, and hospital settings. Most recently, she was the Principal Investigator of a funded research project exploring associations between COVID-19 and comorbid mental illness among Virginia public hospital patients with a substance use disorder diagnosis. She has published her research work using both qualitative and quantitative methods. Dr. Bartholmae currently teaches Introduction to Research, Experimental Design, Research Design II, and Dissertation.
