Biography

Scott Malta was born and raised in Jamestown, NY, graduated from high school, and joined the US Air Force in January 1978 (at 17 years old). He spent most of the next 10 years at Castle Air Force Base, CA, as a Platform, Simulator, and Flight Instructor Inflight Refueling Technician “Boom Operator” on KC-135 Air Refueling Tankers. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Professional Aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and was selected for Officer Training in 1977. Scott spent the next 10 years as an Airfield Operations Flight Commander, overseeing Air Traffic Control and Airfield Management in places such as Minot, ND; Kunsan, Korea; RAF Alconbury, UK; Langley, VA; Kuwait; and Jordan. He Retired as a Captain in 1998. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior “on a dark and stormy night”, Good Friday, April 1, 1994. He became the Moore County, NC Airport Manager on March 9, 2020 – the day COVID was announced in the US. He developed and taught AER-220 – Airport Management at the Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst, NC. Leaving Moore County as the Airport Director in July of 2022, he joined Aviation Management Consulting Group (AMCG) as an Aviation Consultant until his retirement in July 2025. Scott has also served as a part-time writer and Business Development Director for the State Aviation Journal since 2010. He earned two Master of Science degrees in Airport Operations and Airport Management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Scott is an Accredited Airport Executive (AAE) from the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) and a Certified Airport Executive (CAE) from the Southwest Chapter of AAAE, where he served as its President. He also served as the President of the Association of California Airports. He is a member of the AAAE General Aviation Committee; Operations, Safety, Planning and Emergency Management Committee; and the Emerging Aviation Technologies Working Group. Scott has been very active in church as an Elder/Deacon, AWANA Youth Ministry Leader, Adult Sunday School Teacher, and Lay Preacher. He has over 2,300 hours flying in the KC-135, is a private pilot with over 120 hours, and flies remote-controlled model aircraft and drones. He has been married to Barbara for 42 years and has a son, daughter, and five grandchildren.
