BSN Admission Requirements
Entrance Requirements
Application to the program should occur the semester all prerequisite classes will be completed. Entrance requirements include the following:
- Minimum, cumulative GPA of all completed college courses (including dual enrollment in high school) at the time of application to continue in the School of Nursing curriculum:
- GPA 3.0 for Fall or Spring semesters
- GPA 3.25 for Summer Fast Track or Spring Fast Track semesters
- The Liberty University GPA portion (if applicable) of the cumulative GPA must be 3.0 or greater for the Fall/Spring Programs and 3.25 or greater for the Fast Track Programs at the time of application.
- Successful completion of the following residential courses with a final grade of “C” or better is required the semester before entry:
- BIOL 213/BIOL 214 Human Anatomy & Physiology I (Lecture/Lab)
- BIOL 215/BIOL 216 Human Anatomy & Physiology II (Lecture/Lab)
- CHEM 107 Essentials of General & Organic Chemistry
- NURS 104 Introduction to Nursing & Medical Terminology – Can be taken during your first semester prior to junior year in the School of Nursing for transfer students only
- NURS 115 Pre-licensure Pathophysiology
- Spring Fast Track or Summer Fast Track: Completion of more than 55 hours of general education courses and C (A or B preferred) or better in BIOL 203 Introductory Microbiology
- A completed Nursing application
- Two written recommendations (to be requested within application)
- Character recommendation (employer, family friend, youth pastor, etc.)
- Science lab instructor (A&P I, A&P II, Chemistry or Microbiology of a completed lab)
- The recommendation forms will be submitted per application instructions electronically
- An essay stating what has led you to nursing and why you want to obtain your BSN degree at Liberty University (maximum 300 words).
- A personal interview with nursing faculty may be required.
- Successful completion of the H.E.S.I. A2 test. The benchmark is a score of 75% and the committee will consider a student who meets all other requirements but has a slightly lower score on this test.
- Satisfactory behavior at Liberty University. Students who have been expelled, suspended or experienced sanctions are not eligible for initial entry until fully reinstated to good standing.
- The nursing faculty reserves the right to dismiss from the major, students who exhibit unprofessional, immoral or unethical behavior.
- International students, for whom English is a second language, may be required to have all general education courses completed prior to entering the nursing major.
- Students should have completed ENGL 101 and be registered for ENGL 102 at the time of application.
- Students transferring from another nursing program must supply a letter of “Good Standing.”
The competitive student will have A’s and B’s in all the prerequisites with a GPA of 3.5.
Entrance Terms for Nursing Sophomore Year
- Spring (apply Aug. 1-Oct. 1) – Sophomore year will be Spring semester and Fall semester
- Spring Fast Track (apply Aug. 1-Oct. 1) – Sophomore year will be Spring semester and five weeks during Summer semester
- Must meet fast track requirements. (See above Entrance Requirements)
- Fall (apply Dec. 1-Feb. 15) – Sophomore year will be Fall semester and Spring semester
- Summer Fast Track (apply Dec. 1-Feb. 15) – Sophomore year will be eight weeks during Summer semester
