Faculty members may request to have materials or copies of materials placed on reserve in the library for class use. This service ensures that students have access to the materials necessary for class projects.

Complete the course reserve request form.

  • Please allow up to 7 days for normal processing. Requests submitted within 2 weeks of the beginning of a semester are not guaranteed to be processed within 7 days.
  • If an item requested for course reserve is on loan, the item will be recalled. Recalled items will be processed upon return.
  • All course reserve materials expire after the conclusion of the academic year in which they are submitted unless a renewal is requested. Any items that are not renewed will be returned to their original location.
  • After the Course Reserve Request form is submitted, faculty-owned items must be delivered to the JFL Customer Service Center in loanable condition. Library staff will affix a call number, barcode, and label to faculty-owned items. The library is not responsible for the loss of or damage to the items placed on reserve.
  • Course Reserves policies and practices are based on the fair use doctrine embodied in U.S. Copyright Law, Title 17, Section 107 of the United States Code.
  • All materials added to Course Reserves must comply with fair use guidelines. It is the faculty member’s responsibility to determine whether the materials placed on reserve meet the criteria for fair use.

Copyrighted Materials and Multiple Copies
Generally speaking, if the request calls for only a single copy to be placed on reserve, the library may photocopy an entire article, a chapter from a book, or a poem. Refer to the faculty copyright guide for more information.

Note: The library will not keep copies on reserve for more than one semester without obtaining permission from the copyright holder.
