U.S. Supreme Court Clerk to Speak at the School of Law

Mr. William Suter, Clerk for the United States Supreme Court, is the first featured speaker in the 2005-2006 Speakers’ Forum at Liberty University School of Law at 2:45 pm on Thursday, October 27.  In its second year, the speakers’ series is designed to introduce law students to accomplished leaders who serve in a variety of legal positions.  The law school welcomes members of the university and legal community to Speakers’ Forum events.

Mr. Suter has been the Clerk of the U.S. Supreme Court since 1991.  He is the nineteenth person in the 216 year history of the Court to hold the position.  Prior to becoming Clerk for the U.S. Supreme Court, he was a career Army Judge Advocate who retired at the rank of Major General.  He served in numerous positions of responsibility around the world, including Appellate Judge, Deputy Staff Judge Advocate of the U. S. Army Vietnam, Staff Judge Advocate of the 101st Airborne Division, Commandant of the JAG School, and Assistant Judge Advocate General of the Army.  His military awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, Bronze Star, and the Parachutist Badge.

He is a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, and the Tulane University School of Law in New Orleans, Louisiana.  He attended Trinity on a basketball scholarship and Tulane on an academic scholarship.  He is a graduate of the Judge Advocate General’s School Graduate Course, the Command and General Staff College, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.
