Two Liberty University School of Law teams competed in the American Association for Justice (AAJ) Student Trial Advocacy Competition earlier this month. Liberty was well represented at the regional level as they competed for placement at the national tournament. The tournament was held at the Allegheny County Courthouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
One team was represented by Matt Falwell (Class of 2012), Stephanie Avera (Class of 2013), Brady Nicks (Class of 2012), and Kara Graham (Class of 2012). Team two consisted of Will Wittenbrook (Class of 2012), Karlee Shelton (Class of 2012), Aaron Pike (Class of 2013), and Aaron McCurdy (Class of 2013).
“As an appellate coach for Liberty, I could not be more proud of our students. They were well prepared and lacked nothing throughout the tournament,” said Grant Rost, Associate Lawyering Skills Instructor for Liberty University School of Law. Coaching alongside Rost was Steve Rice, Associate Professor of Law at Liberty University School of Law.
In the beginning of the competition, both teams won their first round against Cornell University Law School and The Dickinson School of Law at Penn State. On the second day, the teams performed well facing stiff competition.
"This tournament was an excellent opportunity for Liberty law students to showcase their legal skills at a very high level of competition in comparison to other law schools across the nation. Their performance was outstanding and they brought glory to the Lord with their talent,” said Mathew Staver, Dean of Liberty University School of Law.
