In celebration of the 235th Marine Corps birthday, Liberty University School of Law invites all faculty, staff, and students, as well as the Lynchburg community to join together on Wednesday, November 10, to commemorate the founding of the Marine Corps and to honor its continuing legacy. The celebration will commence at 2:15 PM in the law school’s Mountain View Room.
As part of the celebration, the law school welcomes former Marines and those currently serving our country to commemorate the Marine Corps founding during this week in 1775.
“On November 10, 1775, a Corps of Marines was created by a resolution of Continental Congress. Since that date many thousand men have borne the name ‘Marine.’ In memory of them it is fitting that we who are Marines should commemorate the birthday of our corps by calling to mind the glories of its long and illustrious history,” John A. Lejeune, Major General Commandant.
This year marks the fifth year the law school will honor the military through a celebration. The traditional cutting of the Marine birthday cake with a sword will be part of the ceremony, an honor dually shared by the oldest and the youngest Marine present. Additionally, Marine memorabilia will be available for attendees to view.
