Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America (CWA), the nation’s largest public policy women’s organization, spoke to students, faculty, and staff of Liberty University School of Law on Thursday, October 15. Ms. Wright, long-time friend of the School of Law and Dean Mathew D. Staver, provided an overview of her background as well as a briefing on key public policy issues of interest to conservatives.
The Washingtonian Magazine named Ms. Wright among “The 100 Most Powerful Women of Washington” in 2006 due to her frequent attention in national media regarding moral, social and political issues. The National Pro-Life Religious Council also recognized her work for "continuous leadership in the cause of life." Through her time at CWA, Ms. Wright has been able to promote legislation and international policies that directly benefit women and families. Additionally, she has had opportunities to brief congressional and presidential staff on pro-family issues.
“I originally did want to be the one defending moral values and religious issues; after all I am only one person. However through my early work in ministry I realized that not only were my personal religious principles threatened, but more so God’s,” adds Wright. “I later become aware that others shared in the concern of religious freedom and the sanctity of human life.”
Ms. Wright also said, “If there is injustice in the world, then we need to do whatever we can to stand against it. Unfortunately, there are just not enough good people left in the world to fill the positions needed to affect positive change.”
Concerned Women of America’s mission is to protect and promote Biblical values among all citizens – first through prayer, then education, and finally by influencing society – with hopes to reverse the decline in moral values in the nation. “It’s not just about passing laws for the good of mankind; more importantly, it’s about public education. My work through CWA allows me to be that type of educator,” concluded Wright.
