Liberty University School of Law teams continue to excel in competition. The trial team took a top-four finish in the Carolinas Invitational Mock Trial Tournament and the alternative dispute resolution team placed fifth in the American Bar Association’s annual Negotiation Tournament for Region 3.
Professor Pamela Bell’s trial team of Michael Sharp, Melanie Caldwell, Robin Jenkins and Chad Atchison advanced to the semi-finals of their competition as the top-ranked team, but fell to the University of South Carolina.
That team defeated Charlotte School of Law and South Texas, followed by Georgia State in the quarterfinal round.
The second team of Analisa Parker, Kayla Bramnick, Lily Jenkins and Steven Osborne also competed very well, but did not advance out of the preliminary rounds.
Professor Bell praised her students for their professionalism and ethics throughout the competition.
Professors Joel Hesch and Tim Todd took the negotiation team to a fifth-place finish in their tournament, as Joshua Turner and Justin Reddington missed advancing to the final round of four teams by just half a point. The second team, consisting of Mia Yugo and Ian Lamont also barely missed advancing to the final round, only short by a point.
Teams from Virginia; Washington, D.C.; Maryland; Pennsylvania; West Virginia; and Delaware competed in that tournament.
Professor Hesch lauded the teams for their negotiation and research skills. “They exhibited great teamwork and flexibility,” he said. "Each of these students will make outstanding attorneys when they graduate. I could not have been more proud of them.”
