Jaime McGuire’s passion to serve others brought her to an orphanage in Uganda and changed the direction of her life and her future career. She is now a Dean’s List, third-year student at Liberty University School of Law and one of 25 future attorneys honored by the National Jurist’s Law Student of the Year award.
“McGuire was inspired to enter law school and become an attorney after a mission trip to Uganda where she helped orphans in every aspect of life: school, eating, transportation and one-on-one playtime,” National Jurist said.
According to Ms. McGuire, she collaborated with one particular woman at the Ugandan orphanage who served as a judge for the operation and was inspired to become an advocate for children and families in the adoption process. She and her husband currently sponsor a child from this orphanage providing financial support for the child’s education and care.
More recently, she spent time in Thailand working for New Beginnings Home/Foundation rescuing women from the sex trafficking situations and helping to prevent them from entering the sex trade altogether. She dealt one-on-one with at-risk women and assisted them in finding new opportunities through education and training.
“Most of my time was spent in Bangkok and Pattaya, the heart of the red light district, operating as an outreach representative,” said McGuire.
The publication also notes that Ms. McGuire has been exceptional in her academic achievements, passion to serve others, and children’s advocacy work. While maintaining academic success, she has been active in programs within the School of Law including the Student Bar Association, Child Abuse Awareness Week, Alternative Dispute Resolution Board, Law Students for Life, International Law Society, Christian Legal Society, and the Federalist Society.
In addition, Ms. McGuire has worked in Liberty Law externships including positions at the Department of Social Services (DSS) in Bedford County, Va., as well as a Guardian Ad Litem with a private law practice serving the Lynchburg, Va. region.
Upon earning her law degree, Ms. McGuire plans to take the Virginia Bar Exam and hopes to find employment in Lynchburg or the surrounding area practicing family law.
