For the first time in the history of Liberty University School of Law, the mediation team advanced to both the regional finals and the national finals in the American Bar Association’s Representation in Mediation Regional Competition in Virginia Beach on Saturday, February 23, 2013. As a result of placing second in the finals of the nation’s largest region, one of Liberty’s teams has advanced to the national finals held on April 3rd in Chicago.
Sixteen teams vied for the chance to advance to the final round on Sunday. The two Liberty teams consisted of Madilyn Robinson and Dustin Schanaker, both Class of 2014 juris doctorate candidates; and Caitlin Pennell and James Johnson, both Class of 2013 juris doctorate candidates. Robinson and Schanaker beat both teams from both American University Washington College of Law and William and Mary Law School to advance to the regional finals. The team of Pennell and Johnson finished beat teams from both American University Washington College of Law and University of Maryland College of Law to place third place overall in the regional competition.
“Both of these teams have trained extremely hard during the last few weeks of preparations and their dedication certainly has paid off, “ added Professor Basyle Tchividjian, Assistant Professor of Law and coach to the mediation teams. “What an encouragement it has been for me to work alongside these four students who consistently demonstrate incredible abilities, while at the same time humbly attributing those abilities to the goodness and grace of God. I’m thrilled to have a front row seat in watching God at work in the lives of these awesome students.”
