In addition to its 11 current Certificates of Concentration, Liberty Law has now launched a Juris Doctor concentration certificate in Wealth Management and Financial Planning. This certificate requires the successful completion of nine law school courses that run the gamut of various domains of wealth management from a legal perspective.

The concentration consists of the following courses: Financial Planning Survey; Accounting & Finance for Lawyers; Taxation of Individuals; Taxation of Businesses; Insurance Law; Taxation of Estates & Gifts; Wills, Estates, & Trusts; Estate Planning; and Business Planning.   

The courses in the concentration are taught by an exceptional group of law faculty specializing in business, planning, tax, and transactional matters making this a very robust concentration for interested law students entering a competitive job market.

“Our wealth management and financial planning concentration will equip law students to engage in sophisticated and high net worth planning engagements,” said Associate Dean Timothy M. Todd who directs the program.  “Our unique approach requires students to take Business and Estate Planning—the law school’s two traditional capstone planning courses—both of which prepare them to handle complex legal aspects of business planning, succession planning, asset protection planning, and insurance planning, for the closely held business owner,” he added.

Keith Faulkner, dean of Liberty Law School, noted that “the Wealth Management and Financial Planning concentration will equip our graduates to add immediate value in traditional business and estate planning law firms and in related jobs in banks, trust departments, and financial services offices.  Lawyers play an important role as part of multidisciplinary teams assisting clients in protecting and transferring wealth, and Liberty Law is proud to be at the forefront of this expanding field for legal professionals.” 

The law school’s concentration in Wealth Management and Financial Planning joins a growing emphasis in this area by Liberty University’s School of Business and will provide the foundation for many collaborations between the two schools in this important space.
