The Liberty University School of Law moot court team of Justin Reddington and Zach Hurt competed at the 24th Annual National Health Law Moot Court Competition November 6-7, 2015, at Southern Illinois University School of Law in Carbondale, Illinois. This was Liberty’s first time competing in this prestigious national tournament, which is sponsored jointly by American College of Legal Medicine and SIU.

Justin Reddington and Zach Hurt, both third-year students, advanced Liberty into the octa-final round after preliminary rounds against the University of California – Hastings and South Texas College of Law. The team was defeated in the round of 16 by tournament champion, Seton Hall University. The elimination round against Seton Hall was especially intense and both Reddington and Hurt delivered three powerful arguments. “Our team was every bit as good as every other team at the tournament and they left nothing on the table,” said Reddington.

This impressive performance resulted in the naming of Reddington as Best Oralist in the preliminary rounds and Best Oralist in the overall competition.

During critiques following a round, one judge commented that Liberty Law was a “powerhouse team.” Professor Thompson noted that the Liberty Law team conducted themselves with grace, dignity, and professionalism and represented the program, as well as the law school and Christ, extremely well.

Liberty Law’s moot court team is currently ranked 11th in the nation and the program was recently featured in the The National Jurist magazine.
