Liberty University School of Law successfully defended its title for the third consecutive year at the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Regional Negotiation Competition. The competition took place at William and Mary School of Law in Williamsburg, Virginia.
The team of Brian Locker and Cherie Washburn claimed first place for the law school marking the third consecutive year the law school achieved this remarkable result. The team of Jackson Walsh and Hannah Reichel took third place in the competition and the team of Alonzo Davis and Jordan Van Matre secured the fifth place position.
“Winning the Regional Negotiation Competition three years in a row is an astounding accomplishment. We sent three teams this year and all achieved immense success,” added Mathew Staver, Dean of Liberty University School of Law.
Professor Joel Hesch, who is the negotiation faculty advisor for the School of Law, also commented “I could not be more proud of our law students. The depth of talent at LU is unbelievable. We have successfully defended our title as the regional champion for three years in a row.”
With their success at the regional level, Liberty University School of Law is assured a spot to compete for the national title at the ABA National Negotiation Competition that will be held in the spring. Last year, two teams from Liberty traveled to Boston for the ABA Negotiation Competition National Finals after placing first and third in the region competition. The team of Kari Ostendorf-Coble and Jordan Van Matre (at that time third-year and second-year law students) finished tenth in the nation. In 2007, Liberty sent two teams to the ABA National Finals in Los Angeles. Subsequently, Liberty University School of Law is the only school in the nation having 4 teams finish in the top 20 in the nation over the last two years.
