On Friday, September 10, the Federalist Society at Liberty University School of Law will host its first event of the year—a panel discussion titled “The United States v. Your State.” The discussion will begin at 2:15 PM and will be held in the law school’s Mountain View Room. This event is open to the public.
The panel will focus on the case U.S. v. Arizona, as well as federal preemption and federalism. Such speakers include Mr. Ilya Shapiro, senior fellow in constitutional studies at the Cato Institute and editor-in-chief of the Cato Supreme Court Review; Mr. Jeffrey Clark, an appellate litigator with deep experience in administrative law personally appearing in half of the Courts of Appeals; Professor Ernest Young, a constitutional law, federal courts, and foreign relations law professor at Duke University School of Law; and Dean Jeffrey Tuomala, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and constitutional law professor at Liberty University School of Law.
The Federalist Society at Liberty University School of Law consists of conservative law students interested in the current state of the judiciary and legal affairs. The Society was founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be. The Society seeks both to promote an awareness of these principles and to further their application through its activities.
