The Federalist Society at Liberty University School of Law will host a debate on Christianity and Humanism at 2:15 PM on Friday, October 1, in the law school’s Supreme Courtroom. This event is open to the Liberty University community.
The debate will feature Pastor Doug Wilson of Christ Church in Moscow, Idaho, and Mr. David Niose, President of the American Humanist Association. Pastor Wilson is a prolific author, notably on the subject of apologetics, education, theology, marriage, and family. Mr. Niose, who has practiced law in Massachusetts since 1990, has advocated for church and state separation. He has written extensively on a wide array of social and political issues.
The Federalist Society at Liberty University School of Law consists of conservative law students interested in the current state of the judiciary and legal affairs. The Society was founded on the principles that the state exists to preserve freedom, that the separation of governmental powers is central to our Constitution, and that it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be.
Jason Heinen, who is the president of the School of Law Federalist Society, is pleased to have the debate at the law school. “This debate brings two of the most distant, yet prominent, worldviews of our society head-to-head. While the debate between Humanism and Christianity is raging over the heart of Western Civilization, it is not always a debate that is discussed openly and forthright,” Heinen said. “This event seeks to remedy that discussion and put on display the vast differences between these views."
