Dean of Judge Advocate General’s School to Speak

Colonel Gregory O. Block, Dean of the Judge Advocate General’s School in Charlottesville, VA, is the second speaker of the 2005-2006 Speakers’ Forum at Liberty University School of Law.  The presentation will start at 2:45 pm on Tuesday, November 15, and will be held in the Student Services Center at the law school.  In its second year, the speakers’ series is designed to introduce law students to accomplished leaders who serve in   a variety of legal positions.  The law school welcomes members of the university and legal community to Speakers’ Forum events.

Colonel Block was commissioned into the Regular Army in 1979 through the ROTC program, and his initial assignment led him to be selected for the Army’s Funded Legal Education Program.  As a Judge Advocate, he has served as a legal assistance attorney, trial attorney, prosecutor, administrative law instructor at The Judge Advocate General’s School, Deputy Staff Judge Advocate in both Korea and Europe, NATO Legal Advisor in Bosnia, and Staff Judge Advocate for Fort Meade and, most recently, for the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii and Afghanistan.

He earned his Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall University and also holds a Master of Law degree (LL.M.) from The Judge Advocate General’s School, and a Master of Strategic Studies from the Army War College.  His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Parachutist Badge.  His wife, Maureen, is a native of Kirkcaldy, Scotland, and he has two sons, Colin (18) and Gordon (16).
