Liberty University School of Law welcomes Karen Gould, President of the Virginia State Bar, as the next speaker for the 2006-07 Speakers’ Forum. Ms. Gould also serves as a partner for McSweeney, Crump, Childress & Gould located in Richmond, Virginia. The presentation will start at 2:15 P.M. on Wednesday, March 28, and will be held in the new Supreme Courtroom. The law school welcomes members of the university and legal community to Speakers’ Forum events.
Ms. Gould began her law career by clerking for United States District Judge Glen Williams in Abingdon, Virginia. She then worked as a trial attorney in the Civil Litigation Section of the Office of the Attorney General in Richmond, Virginia. She handled cases arising out of construction disputes and employment matters with concentration in Title VII discrimination claims and First Amendment violations. In her current practice at McSweeney, Crump, Childress & Gould, she concentrates in the areas of professional liability defense, workers’ compensation defense, and employment law.
Active in the community and local bar, she is a member of the Virginia Association of Defense Attorneys, the Metropolitan Richmond Women’s Bar Association, Richmond Bar Association, and is now the president of the Virginia State Bar.
Ms. Gould earned her Juris Doctorate (cum laude) from the University of South Carolina and graduated with honors with her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia. She enjoys reading and trades good book titles with members of the Richmond legal community. She and her husband, Malcolm, have one daughter, Elizabeth, who attends the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.
