Students Brandon Osterbind, Carrie Mitchell, Derek Bush, Nate Johnson, and David Hoffer formed two teams and competed in the ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition Eastern Regional. Both teams advanced to the regional final rounds.
Mr. Osterbind (right) and Ms. Mitchell (left) were 4-0 going into the final round, having defeated teams from San Diego, North Carolina Central, University of Richmond, and American. Notably, the team received an award for third-best brief in the tournament.
The team of Mr. Bush, Mr. Johnson, and Mr. Hoffer was 3-1 going into the final round, having defeated Georgetown, Virginia, and American, while losing once to American. The team ultimately fell to Michigan State.
Scott Thompson, Assistant Professor of Law and Director of the Center for Lawyering Skills, coached the teams and commented that, “Both teams performed extremely well and missed a trip to the National finals by an eyelash.”
