At the American Bar Association (ABA) Negotiation Competition National Finals in Los Angeles, California, two Liberty University School of Law teams were seeded in the 4th and 16th place of all law schools in the country. The 4th place seeded team consisted of third-year law students Kevin Bailey and Derek Bush.
Liberty’s two negotiation teams had previously placed first and second in the ABA’s regional competition, which includes law schools from the District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. Only Liberty and one other law school in the nation had two teams invited to the ABA National Finals. A total of 24 teams were invited to the National Finals.
The other Liberty team, consisting of third-year students Janna Carter and Christina Whitehurst, lost a tough round to the team that placed second in the nation.
Liberty University School of Law Professors Joel Hesch and David Gilbert coached the teams. Professor Rena Lindevaldsen, an expert in family law; Professor Philip Manns, an expert in tax; Professor Chrisman, an expert in business law; and attorney Joshua Dalrymple provided invaluable counsel.
Commenting on the team’s performance, Professor Hesch stated: “I could not be more proud of our students; they have proven that Liberty can more than just compete with any law school in the country.”
Mathew Staver, Dean of Liberty University School of Law and Founder of Liberty Counsel, remarked: “Liberty is setting a blistering pace. We are placing well in every type of a competition we enter. Because we are a Christian school, we set our goals and standards high for every thing we do. At Liberty, ‘impossible’ is not a part of our vocabulary.”
