Residential B.Ed. in Special Education: General Curriculum K-12

Interested in a career in Special Education and have a Christlike compassion for students with special needs? The B.Ed. in Special Education: General Curriculum K–12 is a comprehensive residential licensure program designed to prepare future educators to teach and serve K-12 students with mild to moderate disabilities.

The program is created to equip graduates with the expertise to provide valuable and expert assistance as educators for students with special needs. Here, you’ll develop skills in:

  • Differentiation of the standard curriculum
  • Behavior management strategies
  • Learning theories
  • Principles of special education

This Virginia Department of Education-approved licensure program is CAEP Accredited and aligns with Virginia licensure requirements, offering a certification track in General Special Education. 

Graduates, regardless of their state of residency, are required to obtain a Virginia teaching license, which may be transferred to other states through reciprocity agreements, depending on individual state guidelines.

Upon completion of the B.Ed. Special Education – General Curriculum, you will be eligible to apply for Virginia licensure in SPED K-12: General Curriculum.

Hands-On Experience

Practical experiences in this program are designed to build your confidence, strengthen your teaching skills, and ensure you are fully prepared to support students with significant disabilities in real-world settings.

This degree includes 90 hours of practicum experience under the guidance of a teacher and 16 weeks of student teaching.

Career Information

Graduates with the B.Ed. in Special Education who gain state licensure will be eligible to teach individuals with exceptionalities in kindergarten through 12th Grade. Graduates pursue a range of positions in the field of special education including public, private, Christian, and international settings. With a B.Ed. and an initial license in Special Education: General Curriculum, graduates are able to pursue additional endorsements in special education, including early childhood special education, transition specialist, and adaptive special education.
