Building Connections and Futures at the Nursing Fair

On Wednesday, September 15, students, faculty, and employers came together at the Nursing Career Fair, an event featuring 22 different organizations, from Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health in Pennsylvania to Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System in South Carolina to the US Air Force and Space Force. Students were able to meet with representatives, build relationships, and inquire about future job opportunities.
The Nursing Fair Environment
The Alumni Ballroom buzzed with palpable excitement as students perused the various tables, staffed by members of each organization, and engaged in conversation with them. While the room was rather busy, students were able to freely engage with tables they were interested in rather than wait in line due to the sheer number of organizations present, 22 in comparison to last year’s six.
Lavonne Abe, the Career Coach for the School of Nursing, said there was a much better turnout of students this year as well since more organizations attended, giving a greater number of nursing students access to a wider variety of organizations that might better fit their personal career goals or location needs.
“What they do is build relationships and stay in contact. I had a student last year who I was working with on her cover letter,” Abe said, “and she knew so much about the organization. I said, ‘Why do you know so much about the organization?’ She said, ‘Well, I’ve been emailing the recruiter!’ She asked her ‘Can I use your name on my cover letter as somebody that works at the organization?’ And she did!”
Liberty Nursing Students Stand Out
At the end of the fair, the employers noticed exactly what makes Liberty University nursing students stand out amongst other schools.
“We love Liberty University students because they exercise compassion and hospitality which is exactly what is needed in the nursing profession” – Chantel Greenfield, Spartanburg Regional Care Systems
Overall, the Nursing Career Fair 2021 was a huge success, ranging from free headshots to meeting leading local employers, in addition to the Air Force and previous Liberty University Alumni. Many nursing students were given the opportunity to ask good questions, learn more about what it is like to utilize their degree and receive professional advice.
