Learning
Discover and access information resources
- Use the search box on our home page to find print and electronic books, articles, and more.
- Use our A–Z Databases list to link to dozens of databases. Some databases, like Bloomberg Law, CALI, Lexis+, and Westlaw, require account setup; email lawcirc@liberty.edu for help with any of these.
- Borrow materials from the library’s physical collections. Loan periods for faculty vary by item type: 60 days for most books, 7 days for audio-visual items, and 4 hours for reserve materials.
Keep up to date with developments in law and legal scholarship
- Databases such as Bloomberg Law, Law.com, Lexis+, and Westlaw provide various ways (e.g., alerts, trackers, and email updates) to help keep you aware of legal changes. For help with using these features, email lawref@liberty.edu.
- Use the university libraries’ Journal Finder tool to look up newspapers and journals. Search by title and then link to a database that provides full-text coverage.
- Use Current Index to Legal Periodicals (CILP) to discover recent law review and journal articles. Build a profile for weekly notifications or browse weekly installments arranged by subject.
- Browse print newspapers and periodicals displayed near the library’s main entrance.
Get access to resources not already in our electronic or physical collections
- Use the Purchase Request Form to tell us about resources that you want us to add to our collection.
- Submit an interlibrary loan request to obtain a book or article from another library.
Access continuing education resources
- Access the library’s subscription to Cerifi’s LegalEdge. If you don’t already have a seat assigned to you, email lawcm@liberty.edu to request one.
Ask for research help
- Email lawref@liberty.edu to get help with identifying, accessing, or using any information resource. This account is shared by multiple librarians, enabling team-based support.
Teaching
Embed links to library resources in your online course shell
- Link to interactive tutorials on legal topics available from CALI. If you need help creating an account, email lawcirc@liberty.edu.
- Link to books or articles contained in library databases. Some databases rely on OpenAthens to manage off-campus access. For help with generating OpenAthens-compliant links, email lawref@liberty.edu.
Embed links to open access resources in your online course shell
- CALI’s eLangdell Bookstore offers dozens of free, peer-reviewed casebooks across the legal curriculum.
- Open access resources come in many forms besides textbooks. If you need help locating resources for a particular course, email lawref@liberty.edu.
Put materials on reserve to ensure that students can share access to them
- Email lawcirc@liberty.edu to request that physical resources be put on reserve.
- The reserve shelf accommodates books, audio-visual media, practice exams, and other items. You can ask to associate an item with a specific course or have it put in general reserve.
Ask a librarian to teach your class about research techniques or resources
- Research instruction may be particularly helpful in courses with a significant writing requirement.
- Email lawref@liberty.edu to request instructional support.
Scholarship
Use citation tools provided by the library
- The library maintains Bluebook Online accounts for interested faculty members. Advantages over the printed edition include full-text searchability and hyperlinked cross-references. To request an account, email lawref@liberty.edu.
- Use Perma.cc to archive stable versions of web pages. Then cite to the archived version as provided by the Bluebook. To request an account, email lawref@liberty.edu. If needed, you can share access with student research assistants or colleagues.
Share your scholarship online to maximize its impact
- Use the Legal Scholarship Network (LSN) to share and revise your research, access the latest research, and interact with scholars worldwide. For full use of LSN features, you’ll need to create a free SSRN account.
- Attach articles, presentations, and other scholarly output to your profile on LU Faculty SHARE. For more information, see this guide.
