Biography

Dr. Rogers earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry at Tennessee Tech University. There, he was introduced to research through on-campus summer grant funding and discovered a love for teaching as an organic chemistry lab TA. His research advisor encouraged him to pursue a graduate education in chemistry and suggested her alma mater, The University of Alabama. While at UA, Dr. Rogers worked in the Blackstock research group studying the molecular dynamics of nitrosobenzenes as a means for reversible chemical docking and dynamic covalent bonding. In addition, he probed the noncovalent nano-aggregation of small organic molecules in water. His dissertation research relied heavily on advanced NMR spectroscopy.
Throughout graduate school, Dr. Rogers was given multiple opportunities to serve as the instructor of record in organic chemistry lectures and labs during summer terms, which deepened his passion for teaching and inspiring the next generation of scientists and healthcare professionals. Dr. Rogers also had the opportunity to work closely with six undergraduate researchers during his time at UA which strengthened his longing to prioritize and encourage undergraduates toward research. At Liberty, he is excited to continue studying covalent and noncovalent assemblies, particularly in water with potential applications in drug delivery and materials science. He aims to equip undergraduates with the tools necessary to succeed while at Liberty and beyond!
In his spiritual life, as a follower of Jesus Christ, Dr. Rogers hoped to combine his passion for teaching with his faith upon graduation. He cherishes the opportunity to incorporate Christ, biblical worldview, and prayer into his classroom/lab here at Liberty University! In his personal life, Dr. Rogers recently moved to the area with his wife, newborn son, and chocolate lab puppy. He and his wife are actively involved in their local church where they continue to feel God’s call to serve in children’s ministry to train tiny disciples for Christ!
