Biology Program

The biology faculty at Liberty University are committed to academic excellence and training students to represent Christ in the fields of medicine, scientific research, and teaching. Our unique combination of faculty, facilities, and course selection serves to provide a broad education in biology characteristic of that provided at larger state universities while maintaining a personal level of instruction characteristic of smaller private schools.

Our students consider the biology major to be one of the most challenging at Liberty University. This is due to the high academic standards which are maintained by the department in order to prepare students for today’s highly competitive scientific professions. However, our faculty are not only concerned about our student’s academic and professional preparation but are equally concerned about the personal and spiritual well-being of every student.

At Liberty University, we offer the opportunity for students to become directly involved with our faculty in original scientific research. Students involved in the sciences at Liberty gain experience using advanced and highly technical equipment and state-of-the-art techniques such as ultraviolet, visible, and infrared spectrophotometry, preparative high-speed centrifugation, protein, and DNA electrophoresis, light-and dark-phase photographic and video microscopy, and many other techniques.

Through the Department of Biology and Chemistry, Liberty University currently offers the B.S. in Biology with pre-medical, pre-dental and pre-veterinary concentrations, and minors in both Biology and Chemistry. A student also has the option of pursuing teacher certification in Biology Education.

Presently, a number of our graduates are in medical and dental school, with others in graduate school pursuing advanced degrees in the sciences. Our biology education graduates are in high demand both at Christian and public schools, and most of our graduates have no difficulty finding positions in science-related professions.
