IACUC Controlled Substances
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) enforces federal controlled substance laws and regulations. At the state level, the Virginia Board of Pharmacy enforces controlled substance laws and regulations. The IACUC provides the following information for those who wish to obtain a controlled substance registration and for those who need to maintain DEA records.
Liberty University Controlled Substances Policy
Any use of controlled substances at Liberty University must be done so in accordance with the controlled substances Research Policy Manual (PDF). A controlled substances protocol form (DOCX) must also be completed and submitted to iacuc@liberty.edu for institutional review and approval.
Required Training
Individuals who intend to use controlled substances in research or teaching at Liberty University must complete the required Controlled Substances Training module. This training requirement also applies to any authorized agents or users, per LU Controlled Substances Policy.

Inspections & Recordkeeping
Registrants are responsible for maintaining accurate records. The templates below are provided for convenience, but the registrant bears the ultimate responsibility for ensuring that the necessary documentation is maintained. The IACUC recommends maintaining separate binders for Schedules I-II and Schedules III-V so that, should an inspection occur, all records are readily available. Upon notice of inspection, the registrant and/or facility must immediately contact Environmental Health & Safety at (434) 582-3389 to request the presence of an institutional representative. If EH&S cannot be reached, notify the IACUC at (434) 582-2827.
