Biography

Professor Roenicke served as a national policy and strategy advisor in support of the Department of Defense for more than 30 years, during which he supported 8 Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff as Senior Politico-Military Advisor for Russian Affairs. His areas of responsibility included issues associated with counter-terrorism, European and Asia-Pacific security, nuclear and conventional safety and security, arms control and nonproliferation, emerging technologies, and U.S. and NATO warfighting requirements. He also served as the Director for Russia at the White House in 2012-2013 and was subsequently awarded special letters of commendation from the President of the United States and the Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs. Earlier in his career, he worked as a nuclear and conventional arms control expert in support of the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the U.S. Air Force, and a U.S. Senate Armed Services Committee chair. He continues to serve the Department of Defense as a Special Governmental Expert.
