Football, family gatherings, working on Black Friday and whether they should bring home their new significant other are some of the things students have to consider once November’s chilly weather and crisp colors make their appearance. However, a lot of students have to figure out how they will be getting home for break before they can make any definite plans.

The middle aged man sat across the table. Now his life is changed because of Hope Aglow Ministries, an evangelical prison ministry designed to minister to and disciple inmates across the country.

“Duty, honor, country,” cadet Melissa Knox said. “For Liberty, though, we add a fourth focus — our faith.” Without hesitation this was Knox’s response to the question, “What is the basic principle of the Army ROTC program?” According to Knox, the most common misconception about soldiers is that they are just trained and paid killers. With the media reporting less-than-flattering stories about soldiers, small non-military-based towns such as Lynchburg tend to get the wrong impression, Knox said.

The line wrapped around the block in the chilly November air, waiting for the Schilling Center doors to open for the Tenth Avenue North Concert Saturday night. The concert opened with Matt Maher and worship band Addison Road. Maher played hit worship songs such as “Alive Again” and “Hold Us Together.” During an intermission, Tenth Avenue North band members spoke to the crowd about raising awareness for global sex slavery as well as sponsoring children in poverty all over the world.

The Music Student Honors Recital Monday, Nov. 1 featured 12 performances by student vocalists Kathryn Lewellyn, Michelle Franklin, Andrew Potter, Margaret Duncan, Lisa Manno and John East, flautist Shelby Habrick, pianists Kristen Wargo, Ruth Foley, Micah Pick, Hayan Song and Andrew Ellis, and guitarist Peter Gil in front of a packed audience in the Performing Arts Building.

Ed Peers sat the table with his third-born Emily Peers at his right, his youngest son Andrew on his left, and six more of his children surrounding them at the table. The Peers family traveled from Pennsylvania to Liberty for the Family Weekend Chancellor’s Dinner, where Ed Peers would be awarded the 2010 Outstanding Parent Award.

German Jews, high society, Christmas trees and plenty of Ballyhoo abounds in the Liberty Theatre Department’s latest production “The Last Night of Ballyhoo.” The story follows college student Sunny Freitag and her family during her Christmas break as her aunt and cousin obsess over the details of German-Jewish society’s biggest event of the year, The Last Night of Ballyhoo, in 1939 Atlanta, Ga.

Sherika Moss looked to her sister Shanika as she finally found the words to describe her gratitude. “It made a difference in my life — in our lives — to see that someone cares about us, to see that people are living the Word and giving in ministry,” Sherika Moss said. Distributors for Operation Christmas Child’s (OCC) empty shoeboxes never thought that they would meet the recipients of their gifts, but on Oct. 25, they handed two past recipients of the boxes some empty ones to fill for others.
