Society for Human Resource Management
The Society for Human Resource Management’s Student Program was created in 1965 to promote mutually beneficial interaction between HRM students and practitioners. Since the first chapter was chartered more than 40 years ago, the student program has experienced tremendous growth. The program now includes over 450 affiliated student chapters and more than 15,000 student members.
Its vision is to build a world of work that works for all.
LU SHRM Student Chapter
Our mission is to glorify God through providing our members opportunities for:
- Professional development
- Service to the community
- Support to promote the human resource management profession
The LU SHRM offers development opportunities such as resume workshops, interview workshops, and networking events with HR professionals. Because human resource skills are beneficial to management as a whole, any School of Business student, regardless of the cognate, can benefit from the teaching of human resource professionals.
As an affiliate, LU SHRM has received national merit awards for its work in the community and contributions to student professional development.
SHRM Competition
In February, 2024 the LU SHRM Chapter presented before the Lynchburg Regional SHRM Chapter on “Sustaining Motivation: Leveraging the 5 Appreciation Languages for Continuous Encouragement in the Workplace”.
This topic, which is relevant to current HR professionals, demonstrated thorough research and innovative applications the need to show appreciation and encouragement in the workplace for greater job satisfaction, motivation, and loyalty.
