Biography

After joining the Sport Management faculty at Liberty in 2005 as an associate professor, Dr. Vicky Martin was promoted to the chair of the Sport Management Department in 2006. After becoming chair, Dr. Martin desired students to be able to study sport management not only at the undergraduate level but also at the graduate level while at Liberty University. In 2009, Dr. Martin proposed the sport management graduate program that she had been developing for three years. It was officially approved by SACSCOC in 2010 and launched that spring. Dr. Martin led the Department of Sport Management through the specialized accreditation process with the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA).

In 2009, Dr. Martin was invited to attend the Oxford Round Table in Oxford, England. The topic of discussion at the Round Table was “Women in Leadership”. In 1987 Dr. Martin was presented with the “Outstanding Woman in America Award” and was deemed as an “Extraordinary Student of America” from 1985-1998.

Prior to Liberty University, Dr. Martin taught in the Sport Management Department of Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. while simultaneously pursuing her Doctorate in Sport Management at the United States Sports Academy, which she received in 2003. Dr. Martin has taught physical education courses for both Peace College and Oral Roberts University.

In the early 1980s, Dr. Martin played professional tennis in Europe. She was offered a full tennis scholarship to Oral Roberts University and upon graduation, Martin was appointed as the Division I women’s tennis coach for Oral Roberts University. She coached and taught at the university for 10 years. Afterward, Martin coached Division III tennis at Peace College, and later Division II tennis at Florida Southern College. Coaching for Florida Southern College, Martin was honored to receive the “Coach of the Year” award for the Sunshine Conference in 2001.
