Experience
Dr. Larry Seipp is the Director of Athletic Bands and Assistant Professor of Music at Liberty University. Before his appointment at Liberty University, Dr. Seipp served as the Director of Bands at Liberty Christian Academy (2012-2022), E.C. Glass High School (1999-2012), and Luray High School (1998-1999). Bands under his direction have been awarded consistent Superior ratings. In addition, his marching bands have won numerous Grand Champion awards, including a three-time Class A, AA, AAA Grand Champion Band at Cary Band Day and a Class A Champion for the 2019 Bands of America Virginia Regional Championship. His bands have performed throughout the country, including Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, The National World War II Memorial, the Bedford D-Day Memorial, the Chick-fil-a Peach Bowl, Bands of America Regionals in Virginia and Florida, the Virginia Marching Band Cooperative Championships, the USSBA Mid-Atlantic and National Championships, and were featured at halftime for the University of Virginia.
Dr. Seipp is an alumnus of Liberty University (’96 and ’21) and James Madison University (’98). While a student at Liberty, Dr. Seipp was a trumpet soloist, band officer, and head field commander for the Spirit of the Mountain Marching Band. After graduating with a degree in music education, Dr. Seipp was appointed as a trumpet and band teaching assistant for the James Madison University 450-member Marching Royal Dukes. While at James Madison University, Dr. Seipp taught trumpet students and served in all aspects of the band program, including serving as staff for the band’s first European tour and performing for the 700th anniversary of Monaco’s Grimaldi family.
Dr. Seipp is a trumpet performer and board member with the Lynchburg Symphony and regularly performs throughout Virginia. In addition, he continues his work in Music Education as an active clinician for marching and concert ensembles. He has taught adjunct trumpet for Liberty University and is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Music Education for the Liberty University School of Music Online.
He has studied conducting with Dr. Pat Rooney, and his primary trumpet teachers have included Mr. Jim Kluesner, Dr. Paul DeBoer, and Dr. Chuck Seipp.
Dr. Seipp holds affiliations with the Virginia Music Educators Association, Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association, National Association for Music Education, International Trumpet Guild, and the Collegiate Band Directors National Association.
