Experience

Serves as General District Court Judge for the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Twenty-Fourth Judicial District.

  • Previously served as Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for Bedford, Virginia, and as Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney from 1992 to 1995, prosecuting numerous cases involving homicide, child and elder abuse, internet crimes against children, and other violent crimes.
  • Elected the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Bedford County, Virginia, in 1995.
  • From 1995 until 2016, led the Bedford County Violent Crimes Response Team
  • Served as legal advisor to the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children (SOVA-ICAC) Task Force and the Bedford County Forensic Nurse Program.
  • Received the Commonwealth of Virginia Governor’s Award for Child Advocacy and Abuse Prevention (1997).
  • Named the Thornton Scholar by Lynchburg College and inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society (2006)

Biography

Prior to law school, Judge Krantz was a registered nurse concentrating in emergency, critical care, and forensic nursing. He also served previously as an assistant professor of pre-hospital emergency health sciences at Jefferson College of Health Sciences in Roanoke, Virginia. He began the practice of law in 1990, concentrating in family and health-care litigation.

He also served in the Virginia Army National Guard from 1988 until 1998, serving as a 1st Lieutenant commanding a Light Infantry Medical Platoon. After law school, Judge Krantz was promoted to captain and served as a Judge Advocate General (JAGC) and the Chief of Criminal Law for the 29th Infantry Division (Light).

Judge Krantz teaches trial advocacy at Liberty University School of Law.
