Biography
Dr. Andrew Smith serves as Executive Director of Clery Act Oversight at Liberty University. Smith graduated from Valparaiso University School of Law, where he served as an Associate Editor of the Valparaiso University Law Review and as the Justice of the Intra-School Competition of the Moot Court Society. During his third year of law school, Smith externed for the Honorable Paul Cherry of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana.
Before joining Liberty University, Smith served at Moody Bible Institute as Title IX Coordinator and, previously, as Assistant General Counsel. Prior to entering higher education, he practiced law in Illinois for more than a decade, including as a partner in private practice. His professional experience spans civil litigation, institutional compliance, higher education law, trusts and estates, and property law, including intellectual, residential, commercial, and agricultural matters.
Smith has also maintained a strong commitment to community service, having served as President of CASA Kendall County, a nonprofit organization advocating for abused and neglected children, and as President of the Aurora Public Library District.
Smith teaches Lawyering Skills I (LAW 525) and Lawyering Skills II (LAW 526) at Liberty University School of Law. He also teaches undergraduate and graduate courses for Moody Bible Institute. His academic and professional interests include legal education, organizational governance, regulatory compliance, leadership, and the integration of Christian ethics with the practice of law.
Smith’s personal interests include weightlifting, apologetics, public speaking, and teaching. Smith is married to his junior high sweetheart and has three sons.
