Biography
Professor Richer is a proud alumnus of the Helms School of Government, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree (2019) and his MA in Public Policy (2022). Currently, he is nearing the completion of his Ph.D., which is supervised through the Kirby Laing Centre for Public Theology in Cambridge, UK.
His academic work spans several disciplines, including political psychology, sociology, and economics, but finds it center in the fields of political theology and philosophy. In his writing and teaching, he seeks to uncover and explore the often-hidden religious commitments which underlie and condition all areas of human life and thought—including politics. His doctoral thesis draws upon the intellectual legacy of thinkers like Abraham Kuyper and Herman Dooyeweerd to investigate the uniquely religious dimensions of political polarization, while critically addressing questions surrounding the necessary conditions for the existence of public unity and division more generally. In addition to his doctoral work and teaching responsibilities, Professor Richer also serves as the Deputy Director for the Center for Law and Government at Liberty University, which seeks to develop a distinctly Christian perspective on the nature of the state and its role in human life. He is also the Principal Convener for the Maranatha Society, a Christian academic society dedicated to advancing a reformational perspective within each of the academic disciplines.
Professor Richer lives in Virginia with his wife and two daughters, where he is a member in good standing at their local church. In his spare time (what is that?), he enjoys reading, writing, tennis, golf, and playing violin.
