All prerequisite courses are non-negotiable and must be successfully completed prior to the start of the Practicum

  • Must have 3.0 cumulative GPA or above by the posted application deadline

    • Ethical & Legal Issues in Counseling (COUC 501)
    • Human Growth & Development (COUC 502)
    • Multicultural Counseling (COUC 504)
    • Counseling Techniques & the Helping Relationship (COUC 505)
    • Theories of Counseling (COUC 510)
    • Group Counseling (COUC 512)
    • Research & Program Evaluation (COUC 515)
    • Assessment Techniques in Counseling (COUC 521)
    • Psychopathology & Counseling (COUC 546)
    • Clinical Diagnosis & Treatment Planning (COUN 667)** Intensive
      • *COUC students can only enroll in Clinical Diagnosis & Treatment Planning (COUC 667) and the Counseling Practicum (COUC 698) in the same semester if their Clinical Diagnosis & Treatment Planning (COUC 667) Intensive occurs before or in the same month as the start date for the Counseling Practicum (COUC 698).
      • Students cannot enroll in COUC 667 and COUC 698 in the same semester if they are enrolled in an online section of Clinical Diagnosis & Treatment Planning, COUC 667.
    • Career Development & Counseling (COUC 522) can be taken as a co-requisite with Practicum.

Important note: The Practicum Office cannot guarantee COUC 667 will be offered as an intensive each semester. Therefore, we recommend taking the COUC 667 the semester prior to Practicum.
