Please note: The application portal link opens 3-4 weeks before the deadline. Upcoming internship application deadlines:
- Spring 2026: October 20, 2025
- Summer 2026: February 2, 2026
- Fall 2026: June 1, 2026
Purpose: The doctoral internships provide students with supervised experiences and activities of a regularly employed professional in the field of counselor education. Under the guidance of faculty, the primary focus of the Teaching Internship is to help doctoral students learn the knowledge, skills, and dispositions required for ethical and competent practice in their role of educating counselor trainees in the field of counselor education. Prerequisites: To be adequately prepared for this course, the student must have completed Advanced Theory Application and Orientation (COUC 715), Advanced Research Design (COUC 740), Instruction in Counselor Education (COUC 747), and Practicum (COUC 998) with a B or above and passed the Ph.D. Qualifying Exam (COUN 969) to be approved. Prerequisite courses are non-negotiable and must be completed prior to the start of the Internship.

Teaching Internship Approval Process
Doctoral students interested in registering for a Teaching Internship will submit their request using the submission portal by the application deadline. You will need the following paperwork:
- Liability Insurance Face Sheet
- Course and time preferences (list three)
Once you have completed the necessary steps, you will receive an email from phdinternship@liberty.edu to indicate that your request has been received. Please note that while we will make every attempt to honor your course and time preferences we cannot guarantee that we can accommodate your first choice.
