Residential Dual Degree – B.S. to M.A. in History

Get equipped to develop, explore, and hone your skills in history with a Bachelor of Science in History (B.S.) & Master of Arts in History (M.A.) dual degree from Liberty University. Through the study of history, you’ll gain cultural awareness, human empathy, and critical reasoning skills for thinking and writing about our past. This dual degree program will teach you how to evaluate the significance of world societies and cultures, apply a Christian worldview in your study of history, demonstrate knowledge in research methodology, and more.

You can begin your graduate courses as you complete your bachelor’s degree and can choose to write a thesis or take content courses that will give you a broader knowledge base. In the dual degree program, at least two graduate classes will be taken before moving into the M.A. degree program, saving you money. An advanced degree in History comes with many advantages, including contextual, critical, and empathetic thinking, as well as strong research and writing skills.

Central Virginia has a rich historical heritage with many sites close to campus. Students have completed internships at some of the following locations.

• The National D-Day Memorial
• Appomattox Courthouse
• Red Hill (Patrick Henry’s home)
• Avoca Museum and Historical Society 

Each year students present at the Phi Alpha Theta national and regional conferences, at The National Conference on Undergraduate Research, the National Collegiate Research Conference at Harvard, and at Liberty University’s annual Research Week. 

B.S. or B.A. Degree?

The B.S. degree includes more free electives than the B.A. degree. The B.A. requires a foreign language and two senior-level research seminars that the B.S. does not require.
