Byron, 23, is currently a junior working toward an undergraduate degree in strategic communication via Liberty University Online Programs. Liberty began its support of Byron in 2014 when he drove late model stock cars and has been a 12-race primary sponsor since his 2018 Cup Series rookie of the year season.
Liberty’s partnership with Hendrick Motorsports and Hendrick Automotive Group has continued to grow over the years. Hendrick Automotive Group is the nation’s largest privately held automotive retail organization, operating 93 car dealerships across the country.
Liberty has worked with the Hendrick organization to help its employees and family members meet their education and career goals. The groups collaborate to provide exclusive online and residential program offerings at Liberty to 11,000 Hendrick team members across the United States. The corporate education program allows employees and their family members to receive a variety of benefits as they pursue degree programs or continuing education credits with LU.
“We look forward to great success with Hendrick Motorsports and Liberty University in 2022,” said Liberty President Jerry Prevo. “We feel this partnership will continue to benefit our Liberty students as well as Hendrick Motorsports employees in continuing education and meeting their career goals.”
In addition to raising awareness of Liberty’s educational opportunities, the sponsorship has touched a variety of student programs. Through Liberty’s School of Business, Hendrick Automotive Group helped develop the curriculum for its automotive management dealership specialization under the B.S. in Business Administration. Students receive hands-on training during two eight-week practicums at dealerships. The program seeks to fill a void in the automotive industry for dealership owners, salespeople, and insurance underwriters who operate sustainable business models according to godly principles. Hendrick Motorsports also supports the School of Engineering’s Formula SAE effort, which focuses on electric car technology.
“We’re delighted to continue our work with Liberty University,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports and chairman and CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group, when the contract extension was announced on Oct. 15. “The partnership impacts so many different areas, and I believe we’re just scratching the surface of the value we’re able to deliver. We look forward to working together over the next five years to take it to the next level.”
