As The Journey FM continues to encourage spiritual growth and Christian community across 17 signals in Virginia and North Carolina, Liberty University students have come aboard to benefit from its unique learning opportunities.

“Fortunately, The Journey is conveniently connected to Liberty, and because of that great partnership, my opportunities to work as a student did not end in the classroom,” said Imani Banks, a recent digital media graduate.

Banks said she learned valuable skills in audio that complemented her focus on video.

“Everything I learned was a package, and I will be able to take it with me when I break into the entertainment industry,” she said. “The team taught me what I need to know and the keys to getting it done. Because of my experience here, I will take teamwork, professionalism, organization, and lessons in diversity and creativity into my future.”

The Journey, launched in December 2014, provides not only the most popular Christian music but also a personal connection for listeners as they are invited to share their own stories about encountering God and overcoming struggles. Through on-air interaction with its audience, The Journey resonates deeply with people wherever they are, at whatever stage of life they are in.

The station’s mission is especially meaningful to recent Liberty University graduate Caleb Lenehan.

“Working at the station taught me the importance of flexibility and generosity while being joyful,” said Lenehan, who majored in individualized studies with specializations in theatre and cinematic arts.

“The entertainment industry is one that is constantly growing, adapting, and pioneering, and with that change comes the need for grace. My time working here has given me a lot of new opportunities and information that will be beneficial in my future career.”

The Journey staff became like family, he said.

“It was so nice to have the people I worked with take me under their wing and teach me not just what they know about work — they also taught me about life and what it means to pursue the Lord,” he said. “I am so blessed to have worked in an atmosphere where my coworkers felt like a second family. My parents may not be here, but I had coworkers who loved and cared for me like I am their own. I have never experienced a work environment like this where I felt so loved, cherished, and appreciated.”
