Biography
Dr. Nikki Vasilas, Ph.D., NCC, LCMHCS, BC-TMH, CFRC., is a counselor educator, clinical mental health counselor, supervisor, and private practice owner whose work is deeply rooted in a Christian worldview. Dr. Vasilas earned a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Auburn University in 2009 and has served as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor for over two decades.
Dr. Vasilas is the founder and owner of Rock of Refuge; a practice located in North and South Carolina. The practice is inspired by the biblical truth that “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). This conviction shapes both the mission and the clinical approach of the practice, emphasizing hope, restoration, and the steadfast presence of God in the midst of suffering.
With specialized expertise in working with first responders, military personnel, veterans, crisis, and trauma, Dr. Vasilas integrates evidence‑based clinical practice with spiritual insight, recognizing the holistic needs of individuals navigating some of life’s most difficult experiences. Her work reflects the belief that healing involves both professional competence and the compassionate presence encouraged in Scripture, such as “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2).
In 2020, Dr. Vasilas was honored with the Distinguished Counseling Professional Award from the South Carolina Counselors Association, recognizing excellence, leadership, and service within the counseling profession.
As a counselor educator, mentor, and supervisor, Dr. Vasilas is committed to forming counselors who are both clinically skilled and ethically grounded. Her teaching and supervision emphasize integrity, humility, and the call to serve others with compassion, echoing the biblical encouragement to “encourage one another and build each other up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11).
Across all roles—educator, clinician, mentor, and practice owner—Dr. Vasilas seeks to integrate faith and practice in ways that honor God, support those in need, and strengthen the counseling profession.
