Biography

Dr. Caitlin Overfelt is a licensed professional counselor in Missouri, with certifications as both a clinical trauma professional and an approved supervisor. Before joining the faculty at Liberty University, Dr. Overfelt worked in a counseling department within a medical school setting, where she specialized in individual and couples therapy.
Dr. Overfelt currently works in private practice primarily with individuals and couples who have experienced reproductive trauma and perinatal challenges. She approaches this work from an attachment-based perspective, drawing on Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples, Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma work.
Dr. Overfelt’s research interests align closely with her clinical work, focusing on reproductive trauma and the importance of interprofessional collaboration between medical and mental health providers. This research emphasis reflects a growing recognition in healthcare that reproductive and perinatal mental health requires coordinated care across disciplines, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive support that addresses both their physical and emotional needs during vulnerable times.
