It was a landmark weekend for Liberty University’s women's field hockey and women's soccer teams as both knocked off top-ranked opponents to win conference championships and earn berths to their respective NCAA Tournaments.
The Liberty University field hockey team upset No. 10 Stanford 2-1 at home on Saturday, claiming the NorPac Field Hockey Conference championship title in its second season in the league. Natalie Barr scored both goals for the Lady Flames, including the game winner with 3:49 left in the game.
The Lady Flames punched their ticket to the title bout by shutting out the University of California, Davis 6-0 in the semifinal game on Friday.
The championship game was the Lady Flames’ 12th win in a row as they improved to 17-4 this season.
The team made its first appearance in the NCAA Field Hockey Championship on Wednesday, Nov. 13, in Newark Del., facing the University of Delaware Blue Hens. Liberty lost the game 1-0.

The Liberty University women's soccer team captured its fourth Big South Conference Championship in record-setting fashion on Sunday, defeating No. 1 seed Radford 5-0 at Coastal Carolina University Soccer Field.
Liberty took down High Point University 4-1 in the semifinal match to earn its first trip to the BSC title game in seven years.
Liberty’s five-goal performance marks a tournament record for the most tallies in a finals matchup. With the fifth straight victory, the Lady Flames improve to 16-5-1, surpassing the 2000 Big South championship-winning squad for the most single-season wins in program history.
The Liberty women's soccer team is headed to Chapel Hill, N.C., for the first round of the NCAA Tournament, squaring off with regional No. 1 seed North Carolina, Saturday at 2 p.m. The contest will stream live on GoHeelsTV.
