Liberty University’s John W. Rawlings School of Divinity has welcomed two new faculty members and promoted two more to other positions in the school this semester, continuing its mission of coming alongside the local church to fulfill the Great Commission.
“God continues to bless the mission of the Rawlings School of Divinity and send us faculty who love the church and have a passion to equip future generations of church leaders,” School of Divinity Dean Dr. Troy Temple said. “Each of these new faculty members brings unique leadership and teaching experience that has already strengthened our missional goals. They are all scholars, although at different stages, and they truly love Liberty and our students.”
Jack Carson (’17, ’19) has been named Director of the Center for Apologetics & Cultural Engagement. As an interdisciplinary initiative, the center embraces Liberty’s vision to equip Christians in all fields to faithfully impact the culture with the Gospel and has been instrumental in the development of cultural engagement and apologetics courses. The center also maintains an active Senior and Student Fellowship program. In addition to leading the Center, Carson is pursuing a doctoral degree in Theological Ethics through the University of Aberdeen and has co-authored a book, “Surprised by Doubt,” which will be released this summer. Carson previously served as the School of Divinity’s Academic Marketing Strategist.
Mathew Bovard (’15, ’17) has joined Liberty as a Biblical Studies professor. After completing his B.S. in Youth Ministry and his M.Div. in Biblical Studies at Liberty while serving in youth ministry at his local church, Bovard sensed the Lord calling him to teach young adults in the classroom. Bovard is pursuing his Ph.D. in Christian Theology (Old Testament) online at McMaster Divinity College in Hamilton, Ontario.
Eunice Chung (’15) has been promoted from adjunct faculty member to Assistant Professor of Theological Studies. Chung is a Lynchburg native and is currently finishing her Ph.D. in Biblical Spirituality at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, writing on biblical meditation and the visual arts.
Dr. Bryan Litfin has been hired as a Theological Studies professor. Litfin served for 16 years as a professor at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago and three years as an editor and writer at Moody Publishers prior to coming to Liberty this year. He is the author of four non-fiction books on the ancient church and six novels, as well as several scholarly articles and essays.
Chung and Litfin will help students gain a thorough, biblically based foundation of theology that will enable them to pursue their career goals. The Department of Theological Studies offers degree programs at every level — from certificates that can enhance a bachelor’s or master’s degree in any field to associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in the fields of theology and apologetics.
