Liberty University is the safest college campus in Virginia, according to a report by YourLocalSecurity.com, an ADT affiliate.
Using data and statistics from the FBI and U.S. Department of Education, YourLocalSecurity isolated the safest college campus in each state, based on low crime rates and programs designed to provide on-campus protection.
The site noted the Liberty University Police Department (LUPD) Safe Ride Program, in which students can call and request that LUPD send an officer to their location and escort them from one area of campus to another. The program is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Liberty’s campus safety has been recognized before. In 2015, Niche put Liberty at No. 8 on the Safest Campus college ranking, which considered crime statistics and more than 330,000 student opinions. Campuses with low alcohol and drug activity — like Liberty, which received an A-plus grade for drug safety — were found to provide “a safe and healthy environment for students.”
