A Word from the President

The start of a new academic year brings all manner of joys and challenges, and after seeing how our Liberty community has come together these last few months — and over the last year as a whole — I am incredibly proud to work alongside you as president.

This year marks Liberty’s 50th Anniversary, and I hope you are excited to celebrate with us. Since 1971, thousands of talented men and women have called Liberty home, so it was a pleasure to host a special Homecoming Oct. 8–9 and see our alumni together on Liberty Mountain. I had the honor of meeting many of these Champions for Christ, and it was a great joy for Carol and me to speak with some of them and hear their stories.

Each of our alumni, current students, faculty, and staff have a unique story to tell about their time with Liberty. These individual stories are part of Liberty University’s history and have helped make Liberty what it is today. The Liberty story is rooted in faith and perseverance. We have overcome much these last 50 years, and the future holds great promise for our students and global community. This is what we are celebrating during our 50th Anniversary. (For an inside look through Liberty’s history, I encourage you to pick up a copy of our 50 Years of Training Champions for Christ commemorative book online or on campus at the Liberty University Barnes & Noble Bookstore today.)

Thank you for being part of Liberty’s story and for serving one another, our students, and the Lynchburg community so diligently. Our faculty and staff are true examples of Champions for Christ, and I am thankful for each of you.

Jerry Prevo
President

AnchorLiberty Celebrates Homecoming 2021

Liberty Mountain welcomed more than 7,000 alumni to campus Oct. 8–9 for a special 50th Anniversary Homecoming. Alumni and their families enjoyed multiple events with entertainment for everyone, including a carnival and bonfire.

A highlight of the weekend was the Liberty University Homecoming concert Celebrating 50 Years of Music. Hosted by music artists and Liberty alumni Guy Penrod and Meredith Andrews, the concert included incredible performances from its hosts and other alumni.

Homecoming attendees also enjoyed an Alumni Reunion and — one of the biggest draws of any Homecoming Weekend — a Flames Football game in Williams Stadium. The Liberty Flames defeated Middle Tennessee with a final score of 41–13, bringing the weekend to an exciting finish. Catch up on all the Homecoming highlights in our news story.

Giving Day Rewind

Thank you for making Giving Day 2021 a success! On Nov. 3, Flames Nation rallied together and donated a total of $2,895,383.20 in just 24 hours — that’s a new Giving Day record, and the numbers are still rising!

Over the course of the day, support poured in from all 50 states and 15 countries with over 6,400 donors overall. The average gift amount was around $477.79, and 148 donors gave more than $1,000.

We are blown away by the support shown during this 50th Anniversary year, and it’s all because of you — our Liberty community. Our teams, departments, students, faculty, and staff have all benefitted from your generosity. Every gift made a difference, and this year has proven what Flames Nation can do in a single day. Thank you again for your support. For up-to-date totals, visit Liberty.edu/GivingDay.
