IACUC Full Committee Review

Full Committee Review

A meeting of the full IACUC is convened, submitted protocols are reviewed, discussed, and voted upon. In order to approve any protocols, a quorum of voting members must be present. In certain cases, the IACUC Chair may request that the Principal Investigator (PI) be present for the discussion. However, once deliberation begins, the PI will be asked to leave the room.

More information about scheduled meeting times can be found on the IACUC’s Meetings page.

Full Committee Decisions

Once the committee has reviewed a protocol, it may issue the following decisions:

  • Approval
    • A majority of voting members must affirm the protocol.
  • Modifications Requested to Secure Approval
    • Modification requests will be sent to the PI.
    • Once the requested changes are received by the IACUC, review will continue.
  • Defer or Table Review
    • The IACUC can table the review of a protocol if clarifications are required, if outside consultation is deemed necessary, or if quorum is lost.
  • Withhold Approval
    • The IACUC determines that the protocol has not sufficiently addressed all requirements, and withholds approval.

The committee’s decision will be delivered to the PI via email. Any questions resulting from the committee’s decision may be forwarded to the IACUC.
