Alternate Textbook Services

Many students encounter barriers with traditional print materials. Textbooks and other materials may not be equally accessible in the original format. We offer alternative format textbooks in PDF or Microsoft Word format. Students approved for the alternative format textbook accommodation must follow the steps below, in addition to Steps (1) – (4) on the ODAS homepage, in order to receive this accommodation.

NOTE:  Requests for braille transcriptions or tactile graph services must be submitted at least two semesters prior to the intended course.

ODAS is committed to providing your alternative format textbooks as quickly as possible. Students are encouraged to complete Steps (1) – (3) as soon as course materials are posted by the professor. Submitting the request two months prior to class start dates is strongly recommended. However, Electronic Format Textbook forms and textbook proofs of purchase will be accepted and processed by ODAS as promptly as possible regardless of when they are received by the office.  Alternative format textbooks will, by default, be provided to the student in PDF format unless the student includes on the Alternative Textbook Request form a special request for the textbooks to be converted to Microsoft Word format.  If your materials are not available via one of our approved vendors, we will manually convert them here in the office.  This will require us to reach out to you for a hard copy of the course textbook.
