Alternate Textbook Services

ODAS offers alternate format textbooks in PDF or Microsoft Word format for students who encounter barriers with traditional print materials (textbooks and other course materials). Students approved for this accommodation must follow the steps below to request alternate text resources every semester and/or sub-term, with the understanding that these resources are intended for personal use only.
Alternate format textbooks will, by default, be provided to the student in PDF format unless the student includes in their email a specific request for the textbooks to be converted to Microsoft Word format. If your materials are not available via one of our approved vendors, we will manually convert them here in the office. This will require us to reach out to you for a hard copy of the course textbook(s).
Step 1: Purchase Textbook
Purchase a hard copy of the textbook(s) from the LU bookstore or other vendor and keep your receipt or other proof of purchase.
Step 2: Submit Alternate Text Request
Email your alternate text request to luoodas@liberty.edu every semester or sub-term. Your email must include the following information:
1) Course name(s) and number(s)
2) Textbook title(s) and ISBN(s)
3) Proof(s) of purchase.
Important Information about Turnaround Time
- Submitting your request two months prior to class start dates is strongly recommended. However, your alternate textbook request will be accepted and processed by ODAS as promptly as possible regardless of when they are received by the office.
- ODAS will review alternate textbook requests within 2-3 business days of receipt.
- Once approved, ODAS will notify the appropriate textbook publisher.
- The textbook publisher may take up to 15-20 business days to supply the alternate textbook file.
- Upon receipt of the alternate textbook file from the publisher, ODAS will forward the file(s) to the student within 1-2 business days.
- ODAS is committed to providing your alternate format textbooks as quickly as possible. Please complete Steps 1 and 2 as soon as course materials are posted by your professor(s). If you have any questions about the alternate format textbook request process or the status of your request, please contact luoodas@liberty.edu.
NOTE: Requests for braille transcriptions or tactile graph services must be submitted at least two semesters prior to the intended course.
